Death of a Politically Correct Society

Let me tell you a story. Once upon a time, there was a society of people who were considered to be strong and prosperous, not only among themselves but by other societies as well. They had their problems and faults just as others did, but they were a spirited, independent society and set a standard that was widely respected and admired. Initially, they shunned away from taking a leading role in world affairs, but time and circumstance found them in position as world leaders. They embraced this role enthusiastically. But as time went on things began to change. The advantages and possibilities that came with this status proved to be too tempting to resist, and they developed an egocentric mentality that corrupted their views and judgment, thereby forming the basis for all their decisions and actions. They adopted an uncompromising approach to other societies and it came to be known…

Myth or Reality…Time to Choose

Living under a cloud of myths as dense and invasive as we do have obscured our ability to clearly see and differentiate between what is myth and what is reality. But the conflict between myth and reality is very real and can no longer be controlled, ignored or denied. People use myths to control attitudes and behaviors, and to justify their agendas so it appears that they are on the side of right. To do this they must control the story lines, but this comes at a heavy price as the bill for these comes due and the pressure the world is under continues to intensify. Increasingly, it’s becoming more apparent that leaders don’t have a handle on things and the information is there that can aid in unraveling these myths. It is time to do just that. One thing that is clear is that not only are these myths…

Unmasking the Politicians

Election season is on us again here in America and we know what that means – lies, lies, and more lies. This is nothing out of the ordinary; the lies just get ramped up during this time, as it’s the granddaddy spectacle of political life. The presidential election serves to highlight, more than any other time all which is disturbing and wrong in our politicians and our political system. Politicians lie about all kinds of things which become evident as campaign promises are repeatedly and systematically broken by those who obtain office. These people are pathological liars who lie consistently. It’s a disease I call Diarrhea of the Mouth because every time they open their mouths the only thing that comes out is a bunch of shit. That may sound harsh, but the truth often is. The biggest lie about the elections is that they are a democratic process. They…

Confronting Human Nature

There comes a point in the process of any endeavor when it’s time to pause and take stock of what’s come before, what lies ahead, and what needs attention. The path my writing has taken has left an open issue that I think needs to be addressed before continuing on. It is usually considered preferable, when pointing out problems, to offer up some kind of solution as well. Yet I haven’t really done that and it’s time to explain why. I am not a philosopher, but I write from a philosophical perspective and look beneath problems and situations for the underlying motivations and factors present in human nature which are at the core of all problems. When it comes to human nature there really are no answers, solutions or quick fixes, yet it’s essential to recognize and understand that they are always in play. The role of human nature in…

On the Question of Competency

The established structure governing how our society functions and the methods, policies, and mindsets that defines it has proven to be, more often than not, incompetent and shortsighted. Processes and rules are devised according to how they look on paper and with public image and profits in mind, but which prove to be inadequate in practice. Those in control or who have a vested interest would have us believe this system is effective, productive, and even necessary – but it is not. It is a colossal waste of time and resources while adding unnecessary stress for many. We see emphasis placed on form rather than content, quantity rather than quality, appearances rather than authenticity, and lip service rather than actual intent. Misleading standards have been put in place to provide a veneer of competency which is questionable and most certainly cannot be guaranteed. The world is flooded with so-called experts…

Control as a Fundamental Motivation

From the time we are born we are subjected to control by others in one form or another. There have always been and will always be controls in place, such as laws designed by societies to maintain a sense of stability and order. These are accepted by most to be normal and necessary. Yet control is often pursued and used with negative intentions and consequences. It’s these controls we must be mindful of as they are the most sought after, fought after, and dangerous things in the world. Locally, regionally, and globally; the fight for control is ongoing and plays out in many covert and overt ways both large and small. Money and power are two of the most corruptible influences in the world. There are addictive qualities attached to these that are apparent to anyone paying attention. Those who actively pursue and acquire one or both of these are…

The Shelf-Life of Stability

When I first wrote this the crisis in Ukraine was very much in the forefront of the news and migration out of that area was occurring. Of course, it was happening in the Middle East and Africa too, but at that point the refugee migration wasn’t in full swing. That is to say it wasn’t covered extensively in the news as it is now. People fleeing destabilized regions is an ongoing occurrence and is nothing new. Admittedly, it has been worsening recently, and the stories and photos of these people and areas are astounding. I can only imagine the hardships that are endured, and not only for those who leave but for those who can’t. Living in a relatively stable area of the world as I do, I cannot help but be aware of how fragile that stability is, and how oblivious and unconcerned so many seem to be as…

Adverse Characteristics of Society

I am sure that many besides me have pondered the adverse characteristics of society and the system that governs and influences our lives. The mentalities, practices, and flaws that are par for the course have contributed greatly to the problems we face. Situations and difficulties are repeatedly handled using the same ineffective means and ambiguous motives that ensure that nothing much improves. I often wonder how this system can survive in the long run, or even how it has survived thus far. Through personal experience and observation I have observed four adverse characteristics of society that are endemic and form the basis of how our system functions, and heavily influence all else within it. These characteristics are not displayed by everyone, and some display more than one. Yet they are prevalent in society to such an extent I felt it appropriate to briefly address them here. Quest for Money –…

A Seat at the Table

Everyone old enough to think for themselves has formed opinions. This is a normal part of our intellectual nature. In the online world opinions can be found in everything from Social Media and blogs, to op-ed articles and comment sections. It seems everyone has an opinion and the venues for stating them are there, but it’s not an equal opportunity playing field. Only within certain groups are opinions given any meaningful acknowledgment. For the rest of us it can be a real struggle to assert ourselves and our right to expression and participation. Opinion writing for citizens is a form of passive resistance, and one of the few means available to state our concerns and frustrations in a controlled way. Unfortunately, legitimacy and recognition of an opinion is given only when an opinion comes from someone of professional or public standing. For those of us who do not meet that…
